As the State-owned oil and gas company, Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) aims to ensure the people of Sarawak have access to affordable, reliable gas supply and clean energy under the Sarawak Gas Roadmap. The Miri Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) Power Plant, currently under construction and is estimated to be completed by mid-2024, is our first project for the Miri Hub to provide energy security for northern Sarawak.
This is a two-year programmed to equip graduates with industry knowledge and technical competency to operate the upcoming plant in Miri. This role will include instructor-led classroom training and opportunities to apply your knowledge through a structured on-the-job assignment. The training is based in Bintulu. Upon completion, you may be offered a permanent employment, subject to your performance and ability to acquire the required level of competency.
As a competent Operation Technician, your key accountabilities include:
Operation and Control: Operate, monitor, and control the Combined Cycle Gas Turbine Power Plant, including balance of the plant and electrical switchgears, safely, efficiently, and reliably to meet the State’s grid demand.
Data Recording and Analysis: Record and analyse critical operating data of generating sets and associated auxiliaries as specified in log sheets at specified intervals defined by the supervisor. Report abnormalities, off-limit readings, and faults to the supervisor immediately for necessary/ follow-up actions.
Voltage and Frequency Control: Monitor and control the voltage and frequency of the operating generating sets to maintain system voltage and frequency within specified limits.
Equipment Condition Monitoring: Regularly check the operating condition of all site equipment, ensuring safe and reliable operation. Follow up on action plans with the maintenance crew.
Minor Maintenance and Servicing: Carry out minor maintenance, servicing, and cleaning of plant equipment. Conduct proper test runs of affected equipment before normalising.
Equipment Isolation and Safety: Carry out mechanical and electrical equipment isolations/ normalisations. Execute lockout and tagout for the preparation of Permit to Work/ Test under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor.
Safety and Environmental Stewardship: Foster an environment that encourages superior safety awareness and environmental stewardship through the implementation and support of the Safety Management System and Environmental Management System.
Requirements and Qualifications:
- Open to all fresh graduates with a minimum qualification in a Diploma in Petroleum Engineering Technology (Plant Operation or Plant Instrumentation & Control), with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 and above.
- Candidates with previous experiences in an operating plant environment or possess knowledge in power plant facilities and substation equipment would be an added advantage.
- Willing to work on a shift basis in a plant environment.
- Equipped with basic IT knowledge.
