PRIMARY PURPOSE OF JOB:
Reporting to the Control Room Team Lead, the Control Room Operator is responsible for safe, efficient, and reliable operation of Gibson Energy’s Terminal & Pipeline assets. The Control Room Operator has the accountability for safe handling of products and use of sophisticated computerized equipment to monitor and control activities on assigned console. This position will initially support the Diluent Recovery Unit (DRU) commissioning & start-up, SSOP development, and cross-training activities within the Control Room.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
· Responsible for operating an assigned Control Room console (DRU, Hardisty & Edmonton Terminals Deliveries, Receipts, Pipeline/Transfers, Fractionation Plant)
· Monitor and control crude oil receipt, storage, transfer and feed to DRU processing units
· Make necessary adjustment to safely meet production targets and ensure diluted bitumen conversion into DRUbit
· Provide input on Alarm management and monitor leak detection systems
· Liaises with Shipper Services and connecting carriers pertaining to batch schedules and blending requirements
· Compile trends for analysis, monitor storage levels, flow, and product quality measures
· Monitor process parameters and intervene in a timely manner to correct deviations
·Report incidents, near misses, Hazard ID’s
·Track oil movement and conduct proper custody transfer ticketing
·Maintains safe, reliable operations in compliance with regulations, operating agreements, and Company standards.
·Participate in creating positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders
·Participate in training and talent development programs targeted at attaining applicable job skills and increased accountability at all levels of operations.
·Demonstrates a personal commitment and proactive approach to Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) through participation in all applicable programs and ensures safe operation of the office, team or unit and compliance with all Company EH&S policies and procedures.
·May perform other duties as assigned.
·Participate in competency training to achieve expected Control Room Operator Level as per the Agreement
KEY SKILLS:
· Functional Technical Skills:
· Knowledge and ability to support and work within an Operations Management System structure.
· Strong operational knowledge and ability as it relates to crude oil processing (upstream and downstream) as well as terminal and pipeline facilities. Solid understanding of equipment, reliability and operational processes.
· Knowledge and ability to apply relevant technical and regulatory codes and standards to operations.
· Support DRU commissioning and start-up, SSOP development and cross-training activities
· Proven demonstrated competency with oral and written communication.
· Ability to prioritize assignments, deal with interruptions, make quick on the spot decisions, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
· Represent and promote the company in a responsible, positive and professional manner..
· Work collaboratively and effectively with functional areas and other operating areas.
· Exhibits commitment to quality and safety by evaluating project related processes and making necessary changes, as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:
· Minimum FPHO or ABSA 4th Class Power Engineering certification.
· Minimum 5 years Control Room experience and strong working knowledge of crude oil infrastructure operation (liquid hydrocarbon / hot oil storage, processing and transportation)
· A 2-year diploma in a related discipline, such as power, chemical, instrumentation, electrical, mechanical, o petroleum engineering is an asset
· Field experience, such as instrumentation, electrical, or mechanical maintenance in field compressors or pumping stations and facilities is an asset
· Basic computer skills and proficient using MS Office
· Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License
· Safety certificates e.g. WHIMIS, TDG, First Aid is an asset
· Familiarity with Honeywell DCS as well as proficient use of SCADA as it relates to control, trending, alarms and trouble shooting, is an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
· 12 hours rotating day and night shifts at operating console in office environment
