Chemical Technician Onshore Job United States

Job Summary

The Chemical Technician position is responsible for the successful implementation of Murphy’s US Onshore chemical program covering production operations and asset integrity. The Chemical Technician will work with multi-disciplinary group including 3rd party chemical vendor to ensure all required activities to the chemical program are done safely, accurately, meet internal deadlines/requirements, follow approved procedures, and are cost effective.

The candidate will need to have strong interpersonal, verbal, and written skills to interface and work effectively with other organizations both in the field and Houston offices. In-depth understanding of production chemicals used in upstream industry and effective cost tracking are key competencies to be successful in this role.

Responsibilities    

  • Conduct all work in a safe manner whether in a group or independently
  • Interface with multidisciplinary team on chemical program (3rd party chemical supplier, Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, Integrity, HSE, Construction, Cost Control)
  • Oversee field execution of chemical batch treating programs for wells and pipelines
  • Oversee field execution of chemical program for production operations (including, but not limited to paraffin, scale, corrosion inhibitor, biocide, methanol, glycol, and hydrogen sulfide mitigation)
  • Ensure 3rd party chemical vendor submits all required documentation such as field service reports, Safety Data Sheets, signage, etc.
  • Ensure neat and in-service chemicals are sampled at required frequencies and reports reviewed and actioned upon
  • Perform monthly accrual of costs for operations expense outlook
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators for chemical usage and efficacy. Report back to team on findings and areas for improvement
  • Assist with root cause investigations for damage/failures when associated with chemical program
  • Help scope and guide product selection and performance criteria
  • Direct sampling program with vendor and review results
  • Audit chemical injection sites and submit work orders to correct any issues
  • Initiate and implement Management of Change for new chemical injection sites or chemical types
  • Stay up to date with any new chemicals on the market which have ability to improve operations and reduce overall cost
  • Ensure the work notifications are raised in SAP and work order documentation and feedback has been updated at the end of a job or project
  • Supports special projects as required
  • Prepare job plans, contracts, budgets and forecast costs associated with Chemical Program

Licenses/ Certifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Chemical Technician or working closely with chemicals at Chemical Company
  • General understanding of onshore field development and production operations including processing equipment
  • Ability to follow and apply new technological developments for chemical injection
  • Experience with Permit to Work, Mechanical Isolation Standards and Risk Assessments
  • Ability to work weekends (as needed) to ensure chemical program safely and efficiently executed
  • Must be able to work long hours in a demanding environment
  • The successful candidate will live within 75-miles of Jourdanton/ Tilden, TX.
  • Work Schedule 5/2, 10-hour days
