Job Title:
Control Room / Plant Operator

 

Job Purpose:
Over all operations of TPO Training plants, including Yokogawa operating system and communication equipment.

 

Reports to:
Lead Process Instructor

 

Role:
Responsible for supervising and training of Omani nationals.

 

Operating, controlling, recording of the process parameters and reporting the status of the training plant to the Lead Instructor.

 

Interface with management team and technical instructors.

 

Interface with clients and other agencies on training centre visits.

 

Responsible for running the training plant safely with full production capacity as per training requirements.

 

Accountable for the safe operation of the control room and process units.

 

Operates and manages process parameters of number of units, controlling all process parameters like flow, temperature, pressure etc through DCS Operating System to achieve safe running of the plant and maintain uninterrupted production as per operational procedures.

 

Maintains continuous radio communication with technical instructors and process trainees to keep them informed of operating conditions to request manual adjustments of equipment, to carry out on-site readings and convey instructions given by Lead Instructor.

 

Maintains continuous liaison with other Control Room Operators to coordinate the required supplies according to production conditions.

 

Alters operating conditions or product flows to allow isolation of equipment for maintenance and re-commissioning plant operations following completion of maintenance as per operational procedures.

Being aware of ongoing maintenance work at all times by reviewing permit to work records/logs.

 

Communicates with other Control Room Operator to coordinate operations that may affect the operation and/or production of any unit within the plant. Includes informing each other of changes and synchronising activities to minimise loss of production.

 

Is focal communications point between Lead Instructor, Technical Instructors and trainee outside operators during emergency situations.

 

Responsible for the support of Company Safety, environment and Quality policies and programs, and carrying out specific duties and responsibilities related to the job role as spelled out in Management Systems Manual, Safety Manual and other related documents.

 

Carries out similar or related duties such as assisting in maintaining log; initiating emergency procedures as required and complying with safety rules and regulations.

 

Ensuring the security of company assets by operating in a safe and efficient manner.

 

Compliance with the Safety Management System and the Emergency response plan of the company.

 

Monitoring, control and reaction to the process control, emergency shutdown and Fire and Gas System

 

Applies process isolation under the direction of Technical Instructor and as per the standards procedure.

 

Communicating observed operational problems to the appropriate Lead Instructor

 

Initiating unit, train and emergency shutdown of process and utility system during abnormal operation, or as a result of an emergency situation on the installation

 

Initiating appropriate action in the event of process and utility system alarms and trips.

 

Monitoring and recording of key parameters for process plant and utility systems.

 

Execute all assigned work tasks in line with agreed operating procedures and current approved work practices.

 

Monitoring and recording all parameter and maintaining the production quality and quantity.

 

Ensure the control room is properly managed.

Report to Lead Instructor on status of daily activities and work progress and control and plan the field activities accordingly.

 

Troubleshoot the production abnormalities arising on day today basis.

 

Interface with maintenance staff to coordinate breakdown or routine maintenance work.

 

Take part in the review of work packages for planned maintenance activities, confirms that isolation requirements are applied, and ensures that the preparation of equipment is planned in a manner that provides a safe environment in which trainees can work. Endorse or co-sign Work Permits as applicable.

 

Supports and encourages team effort between Maintenance trainees and Process trainees.

 

Supports work prioritisation to maximise effectiveness and to complement the efforts of other work groups.

 

Take leading role to control emergencies and contain hazards within area of responsibility as per the approved emergency procedures and Emergency Response plans.

 

Good knowledge of Permit to Work system.

 

Handover of daily production reports to Lead Instructor.

 

Able to maintain a clear and crisp log book.

 

Required Qualifications:
5+ years’ experience in Petrochemical / Refinery plant / Oil and Gas Plant Panel operations (preferably Yokogawa systems)

 

Proven experience in control room setting

 

Good communication skills, both verbal and written

 

Work to the highest personal standards and achieve set objectives.

 

Show commitment to the team ethics by coaching and/or training trainees as directed by Lead Instructor / Technical Instructor

 

Demonstrate a positive attitude and a willingness to work to client values

 

Good interpersonal and motivation skills.

 

Good knowledge safety management tools and processes

 

Good knowledge of P&IDs and PFDs
